First Impressions/Reviews: Revlon Colorburst® Lacquer and Matte Balms

Hi, guys!

Back for another review again and this time we're looking at Revlon's new Colorburst® Lacquer and Matte Balms. This new line is the upgrade to their Just Bitten Balms, which of course I loved! I wondered if this Colorburst® line would have the same staying and moisturizing ability and because these seem to be two different lines, I bought colors that were similar with each other.

These are the colors that I have:

135 Provocateur

Colorburst® Lacquer
Packaging:
I like how the cap is very sturdy

Price:☆☆☆☆☆
This sells for $9.29 at my local CVS. Its definitely at the higher price range for a drugstore product, but Revlon prices tend to be up there anyways.

Consistency:☆☆☆☆☆
I love how it feels like butter on the lips when you "put it on." I'll explain later why I'm putting such an emphasis on that. Anyways, I like how it feels on the lips and even though it does have that initial shine, I didn't feel like there was any stickiness to it like a gloss which is a plus on my side.

Color:☆☆☆☆☆
Love, LOVE the color payout! A little does go a long way and I was really surprised at how opaque the color was on my lips!

Gloss:☆☆☆☆☆
I like how it does have that gloss shine when you put it on, but I've found that after 10 minutes or so, that shine fades away to a matte finish. I think I'm being generous by giving this two stars since this is suppose to be at the other end of the spectrum compared to their matte line. It seems to me that its just a glorified matte lipstick.

Longevity:☆☆☆☆
I was really happy to see that they have the same staying power as the Just Bitten line. I put this one one and pretty much stayed on my lips for hours!

Smell:☆☆☆☆☆
I like how there isn't a scent to it. I think that sometimes companies forget that these products go underneath your nose and after a while you don't really notice it, but when you do its just that unpleasant feeling of spraying perfume in your mouth...don't try to do it! So, I'm going ahead and giving this a 5 for that.

Hydration:☆☆☆☆
I really wanted to give this ZERO stars for hydration, but decided to give this one instead. This was a very disappointing lip BALM. Although it did feel moisturizing when you first put it on, a couple of minutes after I could feel my lips tightening and drying out. It got so bad that I had to keep rewetting my lips just to make sure that they don't crack.

Overall:☆☆☆☆☆
I just have to say that this is a great lip color product. The saturation and opaqueness is to die for and would be perfect if they had not advertised it as a lip balm. I think that they have gone completely left field with that idea since this actually ended up drying my lips in the end. So would I buy this again? Probably not, I like the colors that are available, but my lips are already prone to peeling and I'm not going to make it worst by wearing a product that dries them out even more.

240 Striking

Colorburst® Matte
Price:☆☆☆☆☆
Just like the Lacquer, this sells for $9.29 at my local CVS.

Consistency:☆☆☆☆☆
I like that it felt buttery on applications, I've tried other matte lip products before and found them super drying when you first put them on your lips so appreciate that this attempted to be like a balm.

Color:☆☆☆☆☆
Love the color! Being partial to a matte finish, I just adore this pop of color and I don't think that its a very hard color to wear either no matter what undertone you have, but then again I think that you should wear whatever color that makes you feel beautiful!

Longevity:☆☆☆☆☆
I didn't find that this one lasted as long as the Lacquer. Before the hour was even up, I could see some cracking on the color and it was already starting to fade around inner lip area which was very disheartening.

Smell:☆☆☆☆☆
Same as the other one, didn't think I'd have to repeat why again. :D

Hydration:☆☆☆☆
I am seriously disappointed with this line seeing as they are claiming it to be a lip "balm." This was even worst than the other one because my lip actually started to crack the longer I had it on. I think I lasted about an hour and a half before I was forced to wipe it off and apply an actual lip balm before my lips would start splitting.

Overall:☆☆☆☆☆
Again, completely disappointed that this did not hydrate my lips at all! I mean why call it a balm when its not even moisturizing your lips? I think they paid too much attention on the color quality and had let everything else fall to the wayside

First Impressions/Reviews: Maybelline's The Elixir

Hi, guys!

I've been seeing L'Oreal's Le Matte and Le Laque by Colour Riche® reviews and stopped by at Target to see if they had it and sadly they didn't; not wanting to give up, I drove to CVS planning on trying my luck and still no cigar L. Don't you just hate it when you get to the store with something in mind to buy only to find out that its not there?

It always feels like a waste of time, but I wanted to make the best of the day and decided to peruse the makeup section and at the very end of the aisle was a small display of Maybelline's The Elixir by COLORsensational®. They reminded me of L'Oreal's Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain by Colour Riche® or Almay's Color + Care® Liquid Lip Balm.

While Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain is more of a stain and gloss hybrid, The Elixir combines lipstick, balm and gloss in one product.

Maybelline's claims:

  • Saturated Color
  • Cushioning lip texture
  • Glass shine

Here are the four shades that I purchased:

005 Breathtaking Apricot

100 Petal Blush

020 Signature Scarlet

070 Intoxicating Spice

Packaging: ☆☆☆☆
The bottom piece is a sturdy see-through rectangular plastic that encases the 5 mL product in the shape of a lipstick bullet. I love it when companies lets you see the actual color of the product since stickers aren't very reliable to say the least. The top is also plastic with a silver chrome finish. It twists of and locks with a definite click. This ensures that the top won't unscrew in your purse, which I'm sure we all appreciate. The brush is in a soft petal shape, a typical go-to lip brush for liquid color and glosses these days.

Price: ☆☆
At $8.99 at my local CVS, its more on the expensive end of the drug store makeup brands, but its not too bad since you are getting about 5 mL--about $1.80/mL. A little also goes a long way so it ends up to be a reasonable price.

Consistency: ☆☆☆
Hydrating and glossy, but its not sticky at all like a gloss.

Color: ☆☆
For a product that seems to be more of a balm/gloss, the color is pretty saturated. I did find that the lighter colors wasn't as opaque.

Smell: ☆☆
It does have that old lady, floral scent. And honestly, I can't stand it and it makes it a bit nauseating to have it on sometimes.

Gloss:☆☆☆☆
They absolutely delivered in their glass like shine. It doesn't make me feel or look like I ate something oily, but has a wonderful shine to it.

Longevity:☆☆☆☆
Now, they never claimed that its long lasting at all, and it doesn't. It has the lifespan of a normal gloss, which means that you'll be applying quite a bit.

Overall:☆☆
Its an okay gloss/balm. I like it for what it is, but I think that there are other products out there at a cheaper price that achieves the same effect.

First Impressions/Reviews: Covergirl ink It! Eyeliners

Hi, lovelies!

So as I was perusing the makeup aisle at my local CVS Pharmacy, I came across these new eyeliners. I've never heard of them before, which isn't surprising, but I thought I would go ahead and try them out.

Sadly at these CVS they only had 4 out of the 6 colors that are available, and they didn't even have the black one which is what I usually buy when I'm shopping for eyeliners. Anyways, I decided to try out the colors that they have and picked up: golden, aquamarine, cocoa, and silver ink.

I figured that with halloween coming up, I could use these for some interesting looks.

ink it! is suppose to be an extension of Covergirl's perfect point plus eyeliners. I actually do like the originals and think that they apply rather smoothly.

Covergirl's Claims:
Vibrant, high impact color glides on smoothly with pen-like precision for intense eye looks that lasts all day.
  • Self-sharpening pencil
  • Crease and fade resistant
  • Waterproof

Packaging☆☆☆☆
Its very sleek and minimal click-pen. I like the idea that you don't have to look for a sharpener when it gets dull, but I would have rather a small sharpener included to achieve that very fine point. With every twist the pen gives out an audible click; the down side to their design is that if you had put out too much product you don't have an option of retracting it. The cap closes with a snap and you'd have to tug rather hard to get it off. Some people may not like this, but this security gives a little bit of assurance that it won't just                                                                                  come off in your purse.

Price:☆☆
Retailing at $7.79 USD at my CVS, its a bit much considering that you're only getting 179 mg (0.006 oz) of product.

Consistency:☆☆☆
Quality control isn't quite there. 3 out of the 4 had a very smooth consistency and glided on creamily. The golden ink on the other hand tugged on the skin and was very dried. I love the colors and was looking forward to this specific one, so its a bit disappointing that the it just didn't have that same consistency. I'm going to try to purchase another gold one when I come across the other 2 colors that I don't have, and hopefully its just a quality control issue rather than an actual product issue.

Color:
I love how vibrant the aquamarine is! Cocoa is your standard dark brown while the silver and golden are very metallic in nature. All of which have a slight hint of micro glitter to give it just a bit of glimmer, but not so much that it looks like a fairy just sneezed on you.

Smudge-proof:

These are definitely smudge proof. I've been sitting here trying to rub off the color on my hand and its just not budging! The only thing that really comes off are those fine glitters, but you'd have to definitely rub hard for even those to come off, that is of course after you leave the product to set.
Waterproof:
I wouldn't say that they are completely waterproof. The color stays on as long as you                                                                                  don't touch it when its wet, otherwise you could                                                                              rub it off rather easily.

Overall:
I love this product what with the color selection! I really just hope that the golden ink is actually as smooth as the others, but I guess I won't find out unless I buy a new one. If you're looking for a new eyeliner, I definitely would recommend this to you guys, but I would keep in mind that some of the products aren't as smooth as the others.

Local band Driven Under performs at the House of Blues, Myrtle Beach

Hi, lovelies!

I don't tend to go to shows much, but when Wes ask if I wanted to come see I show that they've got at the House of Blues, I thought why not? Free ticket, please!

HOB was hosting a night for local bands, and seeing as I've never heard of the other bands and didn't want to leave my dog at home for too long. Left around 2000 and got there around 2100.

The first band was alright, didn't catch their name...or got any pictures...

So to the main attraction!

Introductions and stuff...

Hi, lovelies!

You! Yes, you! Over there staring right at the screen! How are you? Seriously, I want to know. Leave a comment down below and I'll reply to it.

First here is a picture of my dog.

Adorable, right?
Let me introduce myself. Hi, my name is Noelle Joy, but Joy is just fine as well. I have gained 22 lovely years (hold on as I jam out to Taylor Swift's 22). Born and raised half of my life in the Philippines now residing in the wonderful state of South Carolina. I am on my 3rd semester of a 5 semester RN course. Yeah, I'm almost there and you can't imagine my giddiness to finally graduate and face the loans that I have taken out to pay for my precious education!

Oh, hey, that's me!
Regardless, I don't think I'll be talking much about my education...I haven't decided yet.

So that's  a little smidget about me...

You're probably thinking, "Okay, so now I know about you, but what the heck are you going to be doing in this blog?"

Okay, you got me. I don't really know.

What I can tell you is that I've got beauty subscription boxes coming in every month so expect some open box reviews and maybe a review or two of different products.

Another thing you could expect is some post about my weight loss journey as a food addict and as someone who has PCOS.

Other than that, I'll probably post some tidbits here and there, but with all those post I really want you, yes you, to comment on each post and give me some feed back.

This is where I'll end this post.

P.S. Feel free to leave a comment and stay tuned for an actual post on makeup, food, health and stuff.

And I really do hope that you are having a pleasant day/night. <3

With love,
Joy
